Marcelo Antunes de Siqueira

Mr. Siqueira is a passionate horticultural entrepreneur with more than 18 years of experience in designing, implementing and managing propagation and growing facilities for flowering plants.

Since 2001, Mr. Siqueira has served as president and founding principal officer of Altria Lab-Plants LLC, focused on the development, propagation and distribution of novel varieties of orchids and bromeliads to the worldwide market of commercial ornamental producers. He designs and plans state-of-the-art facilities for tissue culture propagation and greenhouse production of ornamental plants, as well as optimization of biological systems for plant cloning.

Mr. Siqueira oversaw the development of Altria’s breeding program, the first world-class bromeliad breeding program in Latin America, which has led to the award of various plant patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and by the European Union’s Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO).

Mr. Siqueira advises greenhouse growers throughout the world on the production of flowering plants, with a focus on sophisticated production methods such as environmental computer controls, heating and cooling strategies and automated irrigation techniques. He maintains a broad network with the best greenhouse growers, builders and labs in the US, Canada and the Netherlands and works to foster and develop strategic relationships among diverse worldwide stakeholders to develop, promote and distribute plant products.

In the late 1990s Mr. Siqueira served as head grower for the Homestead, Florida location of Kerry’s Nursery Inc., one of the foremost producers of potted orchids and bromeliads in the United States.

Mr. Siqueira earned a Master’s of Agriculture, Horticultural Science and Management from the University of Florida in Gainesville and a Bachelor of Science, Biology and Agriculture, cum laude, from Wilmington College in Ohio. Fluent in English, Spanish and his native Portuguese, Mr. Siqueira is a citizen of both the United States and Brazil. He is a member of the Advisory Board, Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA), Medical Cannabis Taskforce Committee.
